Healthy Alternatives for Airline Food
Healthy Alternatives for Airline Food
Sick of stepping off an international flight feeling like sh**?!? Here are my top 10 healthy airline snacks. They're quick, simple and packed with hours of sky-high nourishment.
1. Hummus (or any healthy dip) with a Whole Grain Pita and Veggies. Remember, Raw Foods = Happy Belly so load up on a variety of veggie sticks and dig in.
2. Fruit Salad. Carrying solo pieces of fruit are easy options but try a lovingly prepared fruit salad. This will not only nourish your physical hunger, it will also calm your mental. Slowing your eating process to savor each unique fruit-filled bite. 3. Sandwich. And I'm not talking any sammie. The mac daddy that makes you shun the in-flight TV dinner and instead bite into something just to your liking. My fav, Turkey, Swiss, Lettuce, Red Ontion, Tomato and Honey Mustard on a healthy, grainy bread. I know I love this sandwich and I know I'll feel great after.
4. Granola Bars. In a pinch, feel free to grab a few healthy, pre-packaged bars but if you have the time, bake for goodness sake!! Granola bars are so easy to make and you can fill them with all the nuts, fruits and oats you like. 5. Jerky. For a quick protein fix with a zing, break me off a piece of that!
6. Pre-Popped Popcorn. Light, fluffy and adds little weight to your allowance. The more natural the better so avoid overly salted or buttered varieties. 7. Packaged Soup. This is probably the easiest and smallest snack to carry. Ask any attendant for hot water, mug a spoon and voila…soup a la you! 8. Oatmeal. Going along with the, "just add hot water", theme oatmeal can be made in an instant. Fill a tubberware container with oats, dried fruits, nuts, etc and I guarantee your steamy breakfast will be the talk of the aisle. 9. Peppermint Tea. Peppermint is a natural tummy soother and carries, what I call, belly fillers. The flavor tricks your stomach into thinking it's full, helping cut down on in-flight overeating. Bring a few bags and drink up! 10. Finally, for you choc-a-holics out there, I recommend Hot Cocoa packets. Sure they might be a bit heavy on the sugar but their liquid state will promote easier digestion then a stodgy piece of airline cake. My favorite is Swiss Miss but I'm sure you can find much healthier options out there. It's not easy, but with a little planning and preparation, you too can discover how healthy 30,000 feet can be! |
