Camping Gear:
|
Clothes:
Misc. Gear:
- Gortex Rain Jacket
- Gortex Pants/Trekking Pants
- Gortex or Waterproof Boots: Save your feet. Buy quality.
- 2 Pairs of Breathable socks
- 2 Breathable lightweight shirts
- 1 Flannel or Heavier shirt for evenings
- 1 Down Jacket
- Wool hat or Beany
- Ball Cap or Sun Hat (make sure you have a way to secure the hat around your head. Patagonian winds have a tendency to lift caps very easily and send the south for the winter).
- Bandana: Double duty. Neck coverage from the sun and/or to keep wind and dust off your face.
- Lightweight sandals: I personally like taking off my big trekking boots in the evening and letting my feet breathe...even if it was a little cold)
- Warm Gloves: Waterproof or at least, water resistant exterior)
Misc. Gear:
- Trekking Poles - Don't skimp on quality. Buy a nice pair and have them for life.
- Waterproof Backpack Cover: When the rains fall a bag cover is crucial. Ensure the cover fits snuggly around your pack and bring a small piece of rope to further secure it to the bag. When the winds blow a flimsy bag cover will act like a sail and be ripped from the bag in one quick gust.
- Iodine tablets or Life Straw: The water in most of the park is drinkable but if you want to remove any possible bad belly causing bacteria's, these are your best (and lightest weight) options.
- Rope: Can be used to hang wet (of sweaty) clothes up to dry.
- Carabiners: Always handy.
- Sealable, plastic bags - Even though your backpack says it's waterproof, we recommend wrapping all of your clothes and gear in plastic bags before putting them in the backpack. This is an extra line of defense against the rain. No one wants to go to sleep in wet jammies.
- Sunscreen and Bug Spray - You don't need a liter of each. Squirt only what you need for the trek into smaller containers and/or plastic bags for carrying. Your back and shoulders will thank you.
- Head Lamp (with backup batteries)
- Swiss Army Knife or Multi-Tool
